چکیده

IEEE 802.11 is the most popular standard used in WLAN. Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) is one of the channel-access methods in the IEEE 802.11 Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol. However, It has not been adequately studied under the existence of hidden stations. In the paper, we present the novel saturated throughput analysis of the IEEE 802.11 DCF in the presence of hidden stations. This approach involves a novel analytical model that is an extension to previous works by other authors which provide Markov chain analysis to IEEE 802.11 DCF. The throughput analysis of our model is evaluated by comparision with NS2 simulations and found the model is accurate and suitable for both basic access and request-to-send/clear-to-send (RTS/CTS) access mechanisms.

A Novel Performance Analysis of the IEEE 802.11 DCF with Hidden Stations

The crucial contribution of the paper is the novel saturated throughput analysis of the IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) in the presence of hidden stations. This approach involves a novel analytical model that is an extension to previous works by other authors which provide Markov chain analysis to IEEE 802.11 DCF. Hidden stations cause most collisions because stations cannot...

A Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks

Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...

PUMA – A New Channel Access Protocol for Wireless LANs

In this paper we propose an extension of the IEEE 802.11 DCF protocol [5] called PUMA (Priority Unavoidable Multiple Access). PUMA can easy be implemented in wireless network cards instead of IEEE 802.11 DCF. It has been shown through simulation that PUMA is fair, efficient, stable and allows for provision of time-bounded services. Moreover, its performance is unaffected by hidden stations. The...

Throughput Analysis of IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function in Presence of Hidden Stations

This paper investigates saturation and finite load throughputs of distributed coordinated function (DCF) as specified IEEE 802.11 wireless local area network (WLAN) protocol in presence of hidden stations. To study throughput of IEEE DCF, we extend Tobagi and Kleinrock’s hidden terminal model [1] and incorporate it into Bianchi’s Markov model of DCF [2]. We use the latter model to derive a gene...

Turning Hidden Nodes into Helper Nodes in IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN Networks

To enhance the performance of IEEE 802.11 WLANs in the presence of hidden terminal problem, we propose a protocol that allows non-hidden stations to help each other retransmit faster whenever possible. Opposite to other approaches, the new protocol benefits from the hidden terminal problem to improve the performance of DCF, which is the basic operation of IEEE 802.11. The new protocol is compat...
